Why paying by handle beats copy-pasting addresses

A 0x address is 42 characters of nothing you can check against. Your @handle is one thing everyone already knows. That difference is the whole argument for paying by handle, and this is why it holds up.

The copy-paste tax

Paying to an address means copying a 42-character string, pasting it, and reading it back character by character, because if one is wrong the money is gone and no one can return it.

People cope by sending a tiny test amount first, or by keeping a saved list of addresses they hope is still correct. That is a tax on every payment.

A name you already know

An @handle is short, memorable, and already in your phone and your feed. You do not verify it character by character because you already recognise it.

On Almacy your handle is your address. Sign in with X and the account you already have becomes the one people pay.

How Almacy resolves it

When you pay @alice, Almacy looks up the wallet bound to that handle and uses its 0x address as the destination. You confirm a person; the address is resolved behind the scenes.

@alice -> 0xA39f4c...9b2 -> 25 USDG on Robinhood Chain (chain 4663)

On first sign-in each user gets a custodial wallet, so every handle has a real address to resolve to.

Nothing to mistype

Because there is no hex to paste, the failure modes of address payments disappear.

  • Nothing to copy, so nothing to fat-finger.
  • If a handle does not resolve to an Almacy wallet, the payment simply does not send.
  • You confirm a name you recognise instead of a string you cannot read.

Public and checkable

Paying by handle does not hide anything. Each transfer is an ordinary public transaction on Robinhood Chain (chain id 4663) that you can look up by hash.

Balances read live from the chain. You can deposit from any wallet or exchange you already use and withdraw to any 0x address you control. The handle just makes the everyday part, sending to a person, painless.
